Big Design Day 2015 in Rangpur
On April 25, 2015, Saturday, Bangladesh’s first Digital Design conference & training event Big Design Day 2015 has taken place in Rangpur City. The event was jointly organized by User Study & Experience Research Hub (Userhub), UX Saturday with Wahid and Bangladesh User Experience Professionals’ Association (BUXPA).
In the day-long digital design conference and training, which was held in Rangpur Town Hall, 14 renowned digital design professionals from web, mobile gaming, 3D and motion graphics industry carried out technical design sessions. Some 600 Students from educational institutions of different districts of Rangpur Division had gathered in the conference to learn digital design. Big Design Day’s organizer and BUXPA’s founder Wahid bin Ahsan said, “Most software project fail because of poor design, and insufficient user research. In Bangladesh, the picture is even worse as educational institutions teach you engineering, but not how to design a great product.” Wahid continues, “On the other side, technology related events and workshops are being held only in Dhaka. Because of that, students of other districts are depressed from quality education. If we can provide guidelines to those students in a decentralized approach, we believe we can meet our goals with digital Bangladesh easily.”
The event started at 9:00 in the morning with National Anthem, and Qur’an Tilwat. BUXPA’s Vice President and Big Design Day’s co-organizer Nilim Ahsan inaugurated the sessions with her welcome speech. “Most of the technology related events are being held in Dhaka. For that, students of other parts of the country are deprived from learning.” Nilim Ahsan said. “There is no alternative of decentralization for a collective development. We will sequentially carry out similar design training events in other parts of the country”. She added.
Honorable Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation, Mr. Al-hajj Sharfudding Ahmed Jhantu was present at the event as the Chief Guest said, “It is really exciting to see our youths are so much interested in learning design. We must repeat educational events such as this in the future. I highly appreciate the efforts the organizers have been putting into it. ” Mr. Jhantu assured that he would provide necessary support to the Big Design Day campaign moving forward.
In the design sessions, Wahid bin Ahsan, ANM Saiful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Tanbin Islam Siyam, Achia Khaleda, Shajed Evan, Asadul Amin Tanbeen, Muhammad Rabiul, Arif Nizame, MD. Delowar Hossain presented their keynote.
The day-long design sessions ended followed by award giving ceremony where the City Mayor handed over awarded 3 talented citizens for their contribution to the information technology society.
