The Basic ones
User Experience Design or UX Design is the process of designing a product, service, process, or system in a way so that it creates a positive perception of the users’ minds. The purpose of UX Design is to create data-driven solutions to problems of the community.
User Experience Design is a multidisciplinary specialization where knowledge of social science, technology, and humanities come to work. A UX Designer needs the skill of Human-centered design, User Interface Design, communication strategy, research and analysis, prototype development, and testing. User Experience designers need to have analytical skills to solve problems of the people in the society. A UX designer has to spend a considerable amount of time on data collection, analysis, and report writing; so, good writing skill is also important.
User Interface Design or UI Design is a process of planning and designing user interfaces of interactive products and services. User Interfaces let us communicate with technology with the help of hardware (devices) and software. The purpose of UI Design is to make interactive systems to be useful, usable, and aesthetically pleasing to its users.
There are two main components of User Interface – an interactive system, and a human who uses it. For designing interactive systems, you need to have a good understanding of technology. In order to make the system usable, a designer needs to know about user goals and behaviors. UI Designers know how computers work, and how we perceive it.
In order to present an aesthetic experience to its users, a UI designer must have knowledge of art, communication, technology (e.g how computers work, software development lifecycle) and psychology at the same time.
Human-centered Design, also known as User-centered Design is a method of creating solutions based on the users’ needs, emotions, environments, abilities, and obstacles. Human-centered design is done in a 4-step iterative process of planning, analysis, design, and testing. The data-driven design process is widely used by governments, technology companies, creative agencies, development organizations and NGO’s.
User research is a process of gaining an in-depth understanding of the behavior, need obstacles, environment, and motivation of the target people/audience/users. Interviews, group discussions, observations, and social experiments are good examples of user research.
